New diversity/inclusion mural

Updated: Mar 20, 2023

In the Spring of 2022, the Fort Collins High School student council contacted me about painting a mural as the senior class gift to the school, requesting a theme of diversity and inclusiveness. I developed my design over the summer and began painting in September.

I liked the idea of many fibers coming together to form a rope much stronger than the individual parts. To represent diversity I made the fibers different colors.

Continuing the theme of bright colors representing diversity, I decided to create silhouettes of different people, each in a different color.

So fun to work with human figures and a rainbow of bright colors!

To further communicate the idea of strength in diversity, I crowned the upper arc of the rope with the words "Stronger" and "Together", and used a graffiti-inspired font.

I ended up adding fine detail line work to each figure to help illustrate the diverse population I wanted to represent. Then, to connect the individuals to each other, I surrounded each with concentric outlines radiating out from each figure.

I finished my "Stronger Together" mural in mid-October 2022.
