Hummingbirds, beetles and bees, oh my!

Updated: Sep 7, 2022

I'm pleased to share that my trio of "Colorado Pollinators" transformer cabinet murals (near Mulberry Street and Shields Street) are finished and approved!

This particular alley near City Park (just south of Mulberry Street, west of Shields Street in Fort Collins) was named "Butterfly Alley" by residents years ago. Some of the transformer cabinets had been wrapped with photos of butterflies, and a few residents were reluctant for those images to be removed. Last summer fellow artist Willow Sedam painted three of the cabinets with a theme of "Butterflies, Moths and Caterpillars" as a nod to the neighborhood's wishes. I was assigned the remaining three cabinets and used the theme of pollinators to tie my designs in with Willow's murals.

Each of my murals highlights critters common in Colorado along with some of the native plants they are known to pollinate. I enjoyed the research I did to learn about these plants and pollinators, and decided to add labels so that passers-by would be able to satisfy their curiosity as well. (Once an illustrator, always an illustrator!)
